Frequently Asked Questions

Teachers & Qualifications

Every teacher on Project Talab is personally vetted and approved by our team before they can teach. Each teacher's profile displays their verified qualifications — including formal certificates, Ijazah, or other recognised credentials — so you can review them before booking.

Our vetting process includes document verification, identity checks and a video review. Teachers must submit proof of every qualification listed on their profile, and our team reviews each application carefully before approval.

Every teacher signs an agreement to uphold authentic and balanced Islamic teachings. Profiles, course content and conduct are monitored, and we take swift action on any reports of content that falls outside this standard.

Absolutely — the intention behind teaching is between the teacher and Allah. Compensating teachers for their time and expertise is a practice well-established in the Islamic tradition throughout history, and allows verified teachers to dedicate themselves to teaching as a vocation.

Classes & Learning

Yes. Male students are only ever shown male teachers, and female students are only ever shown female teachers. This is a hard rule built into the platform — not a setting that can be changed.

Yes. You can filter teachers by language of instruction during your search, allowing you to find a teacher who can teach in the language you're most comfortable learning in.

Some teachers offer introductory sessions at a reduced rate — this is clearly indicated on their profile when available. We encourage you to take advantage of these to find the right fit before committing to a longer course.

Project Talab is constantly growing — new teachers and subjects are added regularly. Many of our teachers also offer customised courses, so if you find a teacher whose style and qualifications you like, you can work with them directly to shape a course around what you want to learn.

Not currently — all lessons are one-on-one for now. Group classes are something we're looking to implement in the future, in sha Allah.

Scheduling & Attendance

You'll be automatically refunded, and the missed session is logged on the teacher's profile. Repeated no-shows result in removal from the platform.

Payment is processed as scheduled. You may submit a refund request which will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis depending on the circumstances.

Yes — you can reschedule with mutual agreement up to 24 hours before the lesson without penalty. Changes within 24 hours are handled case-by-case.

Payments

Payments are processed securely via Stripe. We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Your card details are handled by Stripe and are never stored by Project Talab.

Yes. Project Talab has a dispute resolution process and refunds are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Payment is held securely until both you and your teacher confirm the lesson is complete — so your money is protected throughout.

Arranging lessons outside the platform is against our Code of Conduct and Terms & Conditions, which both students and teachers agree to upon signing up. As Muslims, we expect everyone to honour this as an amaanah — a sacred trust. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Muslims are bound by their conditions.” (Sunan Abi Dawud 3594)

Beyond the religious obligation, booking through Project Talab protects you with payment escrow, dispute resolution and the assurance that your teacher has been verified. Off-platform arrangements may result in removal for both parties.

Privacy & Safety

Each teacher specifies their preferred tool — typically Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams. The tool is selected at the time of booking, and your teacher will message you with the meeting link ahead of the lesson.

Recording is optional and must be agreed to by both parties before the lesson begins.

We have strict policies and reporting tools in place, and our team takes swift action on any reports. Once your account is verified, you can message any teacher to ask questions before booking. Both you and the teacher must respect the platform’s Code of Conduct in all conversations. All conversations are accessible to admin in the event of a dispute.

We use secure systems and strict data protection practices. Your personal information is never shared without your consent. Female student profiles include additional privacy protections by default.
